[16 May 2006|05:13pm] |
So after days of painstakingly rushing through the final pages of Joseph Heller's Catch 22 (simply because I am a perfectionist and must finish everything that I start), I am doing some hardcore pleasure reading. On one of my four "adventures" to the USF library last week, I nabbed a random book off of one of the shelves. And it is quickly turning into one of the most hilarious pieces of literature I have ever read. It is absolutely great, and I want to reccomend it to anyone who likes to sit on their ass and sunbathe while doing "summer reading". Even though I made a list of about 55 books that I need to read this summer, I'm starting with the easy ones first. The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love by Jill Conner Brown. Get it. Now. Run.
"Call the thing a beauty pageant, and be done with it. Get honest. And let the winners get back to the traditional wave, the one that says, "I am better looking than every one of you! But I am humble about it, and I have compassion for all you little, ugly, pathetic people. I am up here, where I belong, above the crowd, so you can all see how very beee-yooo-ti-ful I am and you can see it from all angles and so fully appreciate just how much better looking I am than you. But even in my great beauty, I am still sweet and kind, and I will wave to the likes of you to prove it. See? I am waving and smiling.""
"Now, in a tropical location such as the one we find ourselves in, even bronze goddesses like myself must exercise a certain degree of caution about sunning. Let me just say right now that I am well aare of all the current hoo-ha about the sun and all. And let me further state that I don't care what they say. The sun is good- for me. I believe that staying inside in fluorescent lights and working all the time is what is causing all this melanoma."
"He was fond of bowling and squirrels."
"Yes, indeed. Blow jobs make the world go 'round, just in case you still thought it was love. Everything that happens, good or bad, in the entire world, can ultimately be traced back to a blow job, either given or withheld...Properly timed and executed, blow jobs given to the right personnel on a regular basis would no doubt bring world peace."
"Be particular. That is, without a doubt, the Best Advice Ever Given in the History of the Entire World. Consider, if you will, the profound effect that following that advice would have on, say your diet, your love life, your financial situation, your decision on whether to have that next drink. I mean, what do those two words not cover?"

[02 Jul 2005|12:12am] |
i've very recently realized how much online journals can hurt people...and it makes me sad that i am a a part of this disgusting internet union of rotten blabbermouths. but im going to update anyways :)
first things first...i got a new job! i was kinda trying to keep it on the D*L* (and i guess this is not really helping) because i really dont want to quit muvico. i have grown so attached to being there. ive spent such a large portion of my life selling tickets, being yelled at by bratty kids and their crazy parents, directing people to theaters, making slushees, eating popcorn, and...most importantly- cleaning up other people's shit. o yes, and alot of time has been wasted complaining about all of the above even when im not there! if i have to leave, it will be like going through withdrawal. anyways, nothing is final-im going to see how i fare at the new job first and then decide what i should do. so even though i will be making less money, i felt like it was time for a change and time to give everyone at muvico a break from the "REALLY tall girl with the REALLY annoying voice".
june is gone...a whole month that i really have nothing to show for. so in july, im going to get certified for CPR and buy the new harry potter book. YES!oh and i did a good deed. i collaborated with gwen stefani. ok, not really, but i did donate to her tsunami relief fund!
kieran is leaving soon and im going to miss him. kieran, im going to miss you. as cliche as it sounds, you never know what you have until its gone. and i know that once youre all the way on the other coast, im going to feel the effects of not being told how uncultured i am. but in all seriousness, save me some sleeping bag space next summer.
where are han and rachel and su and the yaz? where have you been all freaking summer? what have you been doing because youre obviously not hanging out with me. (ps- han i know youre in china)
on tuesday i really want to go to orlando. i want to go to disney village during the day and medieval times at night. but i need volunteers who want to go to also!
countdown until the partners in crime re-unite: 30 days. and this is for ben badio: <3, amanda

so thanks to the wonderful adam chen and pressure from several others, i finally made a journal! im very excited but a little skeptical because i read other peoples journals when im bored and sometimes i read journals of people that i dont even know...and that would be weird if someone did that to mine. but alas, i made one, and contrary to popular belief, i will write in it...maybe.
so this afternoon/tonight, i attempted to hang out with EVERYONE ON THE PLANET THAT I LOVE because it seems that im losing touch with so many people. but i wish we could all get together more often. i really miss su, and all our streaking baimai moments with cheryl, and knocking postcards off my closet doors...and i miss rachel and han who i was attached at the hip to throughout all of freshman year and then suddenly we got surgery and didnt do anything at all together anymore...so i figured if i threw in the mexican food incentive, people would come and they did! there was supposed to be like this mexican theme and we were supposed to watch "once upon a time in mexico" with the gorgeous johnny depp...but then that turned into american psycho which didnt even get past the main menu before turning into shaun of the dead. there was laughing and some crying but mostly laughing..which is good. and so i made enchiladas from a box (professional chef-esque) and then chicken tacos...and people brought food too! so it was cool and cheap and i think i gained about 80 pounds...especially because rachel brought cheesecake icecream. (ps-thanks for killing my diet and making my tummy happy)
which brings me to my next point...i always kill my so called "diet". o well thats probably why i still have my nice belly. my belly and i are going to dominate the beach trip next week...i cant wait! its going to be so much fun and im going to have a whole week of doing absolutely nothing but eating SUGARY CEREAL (like the gargantuan box of reese puffs i just purchased), getting skin cancer, watching 13 going on 30, and sleeping in an unfamiliar bed that will probably be infiltrated by sand. :)maybe ill get some summer reading done too, but im predicting a 100% chance of cheesy magazines instead. in other news, dont ever bikini wax yourself...it has definitely been the most painful experience of my life and i think i shed about 2 liters of tears.
as for the rest of summer, ive decided that were all making a trip to kissimee, florida to be barbarians at medieval times. i need to recruit 15 people to go so we can all have cheap tickets and anyone with a june birthday is FREE! (yasmeen!) a day trip to naples, a tea party, and a weekend in fort lauderdale are coming up, plus a trip to north carolina and serenity at the end of july. i also want to go to disney or islands of adventure because theyre the most fun places ever. and july 15 i need people to camp out at borders with me so we can be the first geeks to buy harry potter and the half blood prince on july 16. o yea and the rise against/alkaline trio show on July 7th. dont forget...mark your calendars. ps- anyone thats going away needs to send me postcards
so heres to my first entry! and now im tired and going to sleep...because im waking up at 7 30 to go to a cardio class with mary and cheryl..to get my kickbox on. right...i just hope i dont fall on my face in front of a room surrounded by mirrors and old ladies talking about cellulite and stretch marks. katie wright has convinced me that i want the new black eyed peas cd...patiently awaiting pay day. as soon as the camera recharges, im posting pictures of mexican culture enlightenment :)
